Punta Allen, Mexico
We re-visited Punta Allen! Why is that any big deal? because it is a 32 mile trip? It’s a bit of a big deal because those 32 miles took us five hours in 2014. In a car. So that is a rough road. The dirt road starts at the Sian-Ka’an Reserve, right after the Tulum beach strip. BUT this time it took us only 2.5 hours. It is still a dirt road, just a bit less bumpy. In 2014 we though we take a quick drive to check out this peninsula. Picked up some hitchhikers on the way. A couple hours after we started, it’s dark, the road keeps getting worse, and we have to decide – keep going or turn back? We have enough gas to get back or hopefully get to punta Allen. Beer won the argument so we proceeded of course. Punta Allen hasn’t changed much, other than a bit more places to stay and probably a bit more electricity – they now have solar panels so the town gets power from 8am to 12am, whereas before it was only from 6pm to 8pm or something like that. And the couple nice hotels with cabañas have AC, wow! The cabin where we stayed was fantastic, good food too.
